Make Do Monday's - Something Old

Welcome to Make Do Monday's - today is something old. A Christmas Fruit Cake Recipe, I have made from the first year we married....some 29 years, later....I have only missed making this recipe once....when I was extremely ill and confined to bed and home.....

Requirements:

470 g can crushed pineapple

500 g mixed fruit

125 g butter

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon mixed spice

1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

2 eggs

1 cup plain flour

1 cup self raising flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

Combine undrained pineapple, fruit, butter, sugar, spice and soda in a saucepan. Stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved, bring to boil.....boil uncovered for 3 minutes. Allow to become cold.

When cold, add beaten eggs and sifted dry ingredients, mix well.

Line a round cake tin (8 inch) with two thicknesses of glad bake, bringing paper above edges of tin.

Bake in a moderate over 1 1/2 to 2 hours, until cooked when tested. Cover, leave in tin until completely cold.

This a very moist and versatile, cake.......when we had our trailer sailor, it was a great cake for supper with a wee sip of port...DH loves this cake........enjoy....

Until next time, Warm Regards, Lyn

Make Do Monday's - Something New/Old/Borrowed

Welcome to Make Do Monday, today is Something New/Old/Borrowed. Last Easter, Lisa posted about her Easter Decoration, involving a store bought tree and using mini Easter eggs displayed therein.

You will need some old cotton reels, store bought tree, paints and brushes, cotton for tying to the tree. Good hand painting skills.
This is the result, lovely tree decorations for Christmas.
Until Next time, Warm Regards, Lyn

Make Do Monday's - Something Old/Borrowed

Welcome to Made Do Monday, today is something old/borrowed. To stabilize the edges of Vintage blocks, for a smoother finish for Applique`. You will need the following items: iron, paint brush, container to mix the starch in, and a packet of powdered Starch. Spray Starch won't work with this process.

Place a small amount of Starch into a Styrofoam cup, add warm water, approx. a third of a cup, mix thoroughly. Check on another piece of fabric, that your mix is not too starched.
Paint the mix onto the fabric.(as shown above/below) using the side of the iron, press the seam over.

Continue with this process until all seams are pressed over.

Turn over and lightly press. Centre onto your chosen block.

I hope you enjoy this process, as much as I did when I was shown.

Warm Regards, Lyn
